Independent Medical Examinations
Our Clinicians offer a variety of independent medical and forensic psychological examinations in a wide range of counties in Southeast Michigan. Below is a list of common assessments, but our practice is not limited to what is listed.
Decision Making Capacity
Decision-making capacity refers to an individual’s ability to understand relevant information, appreciate the consequences of their choices, reason through options, and communicate a consistent decision. It is often assessed in medical, financial, or legal contexts to determine whether someone can make informed decisions independently.
Guardian / Conservatorship
Guardianship or conservatorship is a legal arrangement in which a court appoints an individual to make personal, financial, or medical decisions on behalf of someone who is unable to do so safely. Evaluations assess the person’s functioning and need for oversight to ensure their protection and well-being.
Risk Assessment
Risk assessments evaluate the likelihood that an individual will engage in harmful behaviors, such as violence, self-harm, or substance use. They combine clinical judgment with structured tools to guide interventions, management, and legal decisions.
Competency
Competency refers to an individual’s ability to understand and participate meaningfully in legal proceedings or specific decisions, such as standing trial. Assessments examine comprehension of relevant information, reasoning, and capacity to assist in one’s own defense.
